30 days, 50,000 words. Can it be done? Yes! Last year was the first year I competed in NaNo. I say compete because to me it is just that--a competition...with myself. The challenge requires focus, motivation, perseverance and a gut deep desire to conquer the world. Last year I exceeded the challenge and will never forget how on top of the world I felt at that time. The impossible had become possible.
This year I've decided to try my hand at a contemporary. Normally paranormal is my thing, but I'm feeling the need to change it up just a bit, if only for 30 days of my life. What I thought would be a lighthearted and fun contemporary took a sudden turn last night as I typed the last paragraph of chapter 1. Dead body? In chapter 1? Who knew? I'll either go with it or not. Perhaps I'm more of a romantic suspense kind of girl. That, on the other hand, doesn't surprise me at all. I've never been accused of being all sunshine and roses!
This story is tentatively titled DANCING WITH FIREFLIES. The mock cover I created is posted below.

Good luck on the challenge. the new story sounds great. I'm hoping you keep the dead body(only in the story I hope)!
ReplyDeleteI'm going through a big challenge as you know, but I'm ready for it. A new life is in the cards for me and my girls. I'm betting it will be an exciting one!
You'll rock NaNoWrimo, I know it! I'm loving the cover and can't wait to read Dancing With Fireflies!
ReplyDeleteStill debating on that dead body, Vivienne! And your new life will be very full of excitement! Hold on to your hat!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Berinn! I definitely need more hours in a day, but we'll see if we can make this happen two years in a row!
ReplyDeleteBoots and black skirt for cheerleading sound perfect in my book. And I'm all for a dead body in Chapter 1. Just put the romance in too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI can always use a cheerleader...
Casey,
ReplyDeleteI see a book in our future featuring Gothic cheerleaders with some original hard core cheers!
I've nixed the dead body (for now) but I did add a bomb. Fair trade off, don't you think.
Let me stretch and then I'll belt out a cheer for you with a couple of high kicks!
Vivienne sent me over to say hi! Her banner looks lovely! You've got a gorgeous blog here, too! Love the black and white shots!!
ReplyDeleteHello, Little Gothic Horrors, and welcome to Loud Whispers. Thank you so much for your kind words. Vivienne's banner was a lot of fun to do and she was a gem to work with. I do hope you'll pop over again and visit!
